Abstract Score is a piece I made in November of 2021. I've always been fascinated with music and how certain sounds could potentially evoke visuals. For an "Art & Code" class in college, I had the task of creating a digital interface completely in Processing/Java. So I then decided to merge my love of music creation with this coding class assignment.
This piece works with a MIDI keyboard and is completely interactive. Every note on the keyboard corresponds with a specific color. Each time a note is pressed, a random shape is placed on the canvas. The shape is randomized along with its position. The aggressiveness and power pressed into each note determine the shape's size. This piece forces audiences to engage and let their inner musicality and curiosity shine.
This piece was accepted into the 2022 Bowling Green State University Undergraduate Art Show.
