CMYK Orb Clock was created in October of 2021 as a part of my "Art & Code" class. For this particular assignment, I had to make a piece that correlated specifically with the time of day.
For this piece, I wanted to create something abstract. I’ve always been a fan of printers. I’m fascinated by how with just four different colored inks, a printer can create just about any image you can think of regardless of the desired output. So, I decided to apply the aesthetic of those principles to this piece. This isn't necessarily a message about printers, but I liked the thought of the 3 hues and the different values they create. Each array of colored dots corresponds with a different mode of time (seconds are pink, minutes are cyan, and hours are yellow). While the clock itself isn’t very readable, it is a functioning clock. You just aren’t able to read the hands. It’s actually the opposite; the actual void of dots is where the hand would be if it was visible. Each time of the day creates its own unique and individual frame to display time, just like how printers create a desired set of information with a unique set of colored dots.
